There’s always something magical about NYE. It’s a time where we come together with those we love and care about to ring in the New Year! It’s a time where we reflect back on the year that was. Some of it good, some of it bad. For some of us it was a year of Success and Achievement, for others it was a year of loss, grief and regret and for some of us just an ordinary year with nothing to write home about. Whatever year you may have had in 2017, the good news is that tomorrow we can start again!
As for me, I always get a sensation of goosebumps as I count down the last ten seconds of the year that was. Goosebumps because as of midnight it is a New Year! The year hasn’t been written yet, hasn’t been tarnished by bad things, it gives me a sense of hope, faith and love for what is to come. If you’re fortunate enough to be in your city surrounded by strangers watch how everyone comes together in solidarity hugging and kissing each other because everyone is feeling the same emotions.
The ringing in the New Year, fills me with inspiration and motivation about all that I can achieve over the next 12 months. Things that I have been putting off for one reason or another. Purging myself of the previous year and forgiving myself of things that didn’t go according to plan or where I think I would be by this time of year.
But if I reflect back a year ago from today, I was in a totally different head space. I’d just lost my Father and had seen the worst of human behavior expressed, 2016 for me was one of those years that broke me, defined me, and made me. I’m not the same person that I was even two NYEs ago. It took a lot of energy for me to rise from where I was to where I am today. Would I say that I’m exactly where I want to be right now? Probably not. Would I say that I’m exactly where I need to be right now, most likely, Yes! 2017 was a year of healing and personal growth for me. Where even getting out of bed was an effort to now working two jobs, juggling family and other responsibilities. I’ve never been busier.
One thing I know for sure, is that NYE gives you a chance to reset the clock. A time for second chances, new beginnings, fresh starts. A time to wipe the slate clean. I’m looking forward to mid-night tonight, will there be a few tears most certainly. Will 2018 be a year that I will make an impact! Absolutely! This is my New Years’ Resolution to myself!! What’s yours I’d love to know?
